Waterpark 57- 8 Youghal.

Waterpark kicked off this Under 18 Conference League in resounding fashion with a nine try victory against Youghal by 57 – 8. Park were on the scoreboard within five minutes after centre Callum Dooley-Cullinane broke through some weak tackling to go over under the posts.Out half David Kelleher added the extras. 7-0 to Park. Straight from the restart. Number 8 Niall Voegeler gathered and and made good ground before offloading to Flanker, Cormac Walsh, who dotted down for Park’s second try and with Kelleher slotting the conversion Park led 14-0 inside the first eight minutes. Two minutes later Kelleher was replaced by Ben Schneider’s after he shipped a heavy tackle. The visitors came more into the game and after twenty minutes had registered their first points with a penalty by the out half. 14-3 to Park. The home side struck again almost immediately with Walsh going over for his second try.19-3 to Park. This was added to on twenty eight minutes after Killian Horan notched his sides fourth try which Schneider’s converted to widen the gap to 26-3. Just on the halftime break another Horan try plus the conversion by Schneider left the home side ahead by 33-3.
A raft of changes were made during the break but Park’s rhythm was not disturbed and after ten minutes, Shane Glynn went over for his try which Schneider again converted to push the score out to 40-3. Within ten minutes Park lost Cathal Walsh with a hand injury and five minutes later a brilliant break by Charlie Caffrey saw the big number 19 split the Youghal defence in two from the back of the scrum 30 metres out only to be brought down just short of the line, but his good presentation of the ball, allowed the supporting Schneider to pick and dive over for the try. 45-3 to Park. Two tries in the last five minutes by John Pearson and Mark Wallis with Schneider being successful with one left the final score at 57-3 to Park.

Waterpark 29 – 24 Dungarvan

An absolutely wonderful game of rugby between two committed sides in this friendly played in Ballinakill on Saturday ended with the home side victorious by a single try at 29 – 24. The game started at a frantic pace and within a minute Park full back Daragh Casey – Power broke several tackles and went in under the posts for the first of his tries which out half James Comerford converted. 7-0 to Park. This lead was short lived as within five minutes the visitors big lock forward drove over the Park line for his sides opening score. 7-5 to Park.This was followed five minutes later when the Dungarvan speedy winger raced clear from the halfway line for a converted try to put the visitors ahead at 7-12. On twenty minutes this lead was extended to 7-17 with a driving maul which yielded a try. Just on the halftime whistle, Park centre, Jack Power, with a mazy run crossed out wide to leave the score at the break 12-17 in favour of Dungarvan.
Into the second period and a much more aggressive display saw the home side sharpen up on their tackling and also at the ruck situation’s and within ten minutes a Casey-Power try converted by Comerford had Park in front at 19-17 a lead they never relinquished. Five minutes later from a tap penalty, followed by a skip pass, saw Eddie O’Reilly go over in the corner to increase the gap to 24-17. Park’s total was completed with ten minutes left through a lovely passing movement across the back line for Dean O’Connor to touch down in the right corner. 29-17 to Park. Dungarvan finished off with a converted try virtually at the final whistle to leave the final score at 29 – 24 to the home side.

Waterpark Under 14 Girls

Wexford 10 – 34 Waterpark

Waterpark travelled to Wexford to play only their second game of the season and we’re worthy winners at 10-34. This was literally a game of two halves as the first period was played on half the pitch with the second period played on the full pitch.
Park we’re first on the scoreboard with a try by Zoe Murphy after five minutes but the home side levelled matters within ten minutes . 5-5. Park upped the ante and scored two further tries through MaryLou Keena and Kate Gillen to leave their side in front 5-15 at the break.
The second period was played on the full pitch and the visitors were first to score when scrum half Cora Miller crossed for Parks fourth try after a great run up the touch line. 5-20 . Wexford we’re in under the posts with ten minutes to go at 10-20, but again Park raised their efforts and tries by Gillen and Keena finished off the home side to leave the final score 10 – 34 to Park.
Note: Any young girls within the age groups of 7 years to 18 years who wish to take up rugby are more than welcome in Ballinakill any Saturday morning from 9.45am to 11.00 am., where you will be well looked after by all the coaches.
